REVIEW
Peter Krampert,
Author, The Encyclopedia of the Harmonica

This is a very nice and mellow Jazz Cd featuring the harmonica playing of the great Clint Hoover. As always, Clint delivers with authority, showing his love of greats like Toots Thielemans, Larry Adler and Howard Levy. There’s several old standards on here and Clint breathes new life into them. I’m especially fond of “Meditation” by Jobim. I actually took the CD into the music studio where I give lessons so that everyone could hear just how great a harmonica could sound in music where they weren’t use to hearing harmonica and they were all impressed. I definitely recommend this CD. It makes for great listening.

OVERVIEW
This CD is guitarist Steve Haskin’s outing into a selection of jazz standards, and displays Steve’s penchant for subtlety, and nuanced musical intimacy. The recording has a definite “chamber jazz” feel to it, emphasized by Steve playing a nylon string classical guitar instead of a steel string acoustic or electric guitar.

Tops has a spacious, reflective atmosphere, best exemplified by the group’s unique rendition of On a Clear Day which captures a contemplative mood that is at once both meditative and nostalgic. There are some surprises here as well, such as the ending of My Favorite Things which morphs into a kind of joyous irish folk romp!

Eric Graham plays some tasty upright “stick” bass and Clint Hoover displays his usual top notch chromatic harp jazz chops. After listening to this record, you will think Trio Tipo is Tops, too.
